Bhoomi Puja, also called Sankusthapana, is a sacred ritual offered to Goddess Bhoomi and Vastu Purush before beginning construction on land. It is performed to cleanse the site, remove Vastu-related imbalances, and ensure that the five natural elements and the directional energies are in harmony.
When the earth is dug or disturbed for building, its natural balance is believed to shift. Bhoomi Puja seeks forgiveness from Mother Earth, asks for her permission to build, and invites her blessings so that the space supports joy, growth, and well-being.
The ceremony is usually carried out in the northeast corner of the plot, where Bhoomi Mata is invoked with mantras and offerings. Through this puja, negative energies and Vastu doshas are neutralized, while positive energy, protection, and prosperity are welcomed into the future home or premises.
